A solo female travel experience is incredible for the soul — at any age.

I am deeply passionate about this and believe it to my core. Providing safe and meaningful opportunities for women to experience travel is the intention behind Dare to Detour and it's at the root of our mission.

Detouring has become my religion.

Why?

Because Detours shift perspective.

You might be wondering why I chose Morocco as a place to travel as a woman.

And why do I think Morocco is such an important place for us to Detour?

Why you can (and should) make a travel budget.

Are budgets your B*&%$ or your BFF? For most of my adult life budgets have been a B*&%$. In 2022 I made the decision to make a major shift, and step by step, I've been turning that B*&%$ into my BFF.

So what have I learned?

If I’m afraid, I Dare myself.

Many of you have reached out with questions about what motivated my Never Have I Ever DIY Detour Challenge. Honestly, it goes back to a story about fear. It goes back to when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

I'm going to talk about my other big D word.

Divorce.

Because for the first time in a long time, I feel really good where I’m at. 

But many in my circle DO NOT understand why I’m alone. Or let alone, why I'm feeling happy about it.

Flower Crowns & Fearsome Things! This trip left me feeling all the feels. I grew up outside of Portland, Oregon, but moved to New York City right after graduating from Oregon State, so Detouring in Bend felt like a homecoming to me.

Have you ever...

Done a cold plunge in a lake?
Taken yourself out on a solo date?
Flew in a backcountry plane?
Neither had I until I started playing this game.

This playlist features songs that I have repeatedly turned to as I've moved through the past few years. Some I dance to, some I sing along with, some make me smile, some make me cry, and some I simply hold in my heart.

I sit down at the end of every year and revisit my core values, for myself and for my business. This past year my core values shifted dramatically. Finding myself on the other side of breast cancer, the pandemic, and divorce shifted my perspective on all kinds of things.

We take ourselves way too seriously.

And we need to stop it.

We need to stop being so serious and stop doing the same old things we’ve always done. We need to find more ways to add color to our lives. More creativity and more moments of joy.

And that's really the simple message I want to share. That the holidays CAN be a time that is instead, about creating space. Space for you, space for feeling, and space for creating new traditions for yourself and those closest to you.

Anyone who knows me agrees that I love to shop. But more than anything, I thoroughly enjoy the art of finding things (and experiences!) to give as gifts.

Let’s talk about putting yourself out there as an Adult.

It’s hard to make friends as an adult. No matter how old you are.
I’m a connector, and certainly an extrovert, but putting yourself out there as an adult is hard.

I FELT LIKE SUCH AN EPIC FAILURE.

It was 2017, I was living in Tiburon, California and was a member of The Hivery, a popular women-only co-working space in the next town over. With two teenagers about to graduate high school, I noticed a posting for a class called ‘What’s Next 101’ and decided to sign up. I was part of the first cohort of 9. Besides me, the other gals were all seemingly successful, full-time, career-driven women. And although I worked hard both as a full-time mom and as a pro bono fundraiser successfully bringing in upwards of a million a year, I felt like an epic failure.

I’m going to put this out here:

It really bothers me when people say you can ‘rewrite a chapter’.

I don’t believe in rewriting chapters.
I believe in ending them.

This is uncomfortable for me. But it’s my livelihood.

I shared these words on Instagram this week. Mostly for me. But also to make the “official” declaration that I’m not going to bring back the Dare to Detour account. Instead, I’m putting on my big girl shoes and stepping into this business front and center.
