#GirlMoss Summer, My Favorite Ways to Connect with Nature

Something that gets me every summer?

My garden.

I have such an appreciation for the summer and the seasons WAY more living in Montana. Everything was always in bloom in California. It was gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but living in a place with seasonality physically reminds me that life is a cycle of change and growth over time.

Nature is an amazing teacher in this way.

Summer has officially arrived here in Montana and she’s shining in all her glory. But no matter where you are, summer is an excellent time to take advantage of getting out in nature. Here are some of my current favorite ways to get your #GirlMoss Summer on!

  1. Go for a hike! I’ve been getting out for as many hikes as I can lately getting ready for our Dare | Wild Backpacking Retreat. On Thursday, I hiked Baldy Mountain with two friends and our pups.

  2. Garden. Plant some seeds or get yourself some potted plants. Bring in some green and I promise your mood will feel better.

  3. Head to the dog park. Milo and Noodle insist we go every day. As a bonus, it provides an excellent way to unwind my mind at the end of the day.

  4. Go camping. Backpacking is next up on my list. But I also love hitting the road with Gypsy, my camper van.

  5. Dine al fresco. Head to a park, the riverside, a mountain top, the beach, or your backyard and share a picnic or BBQ with your family and friends. For some reason, food tastes better while sitting on a blanket outdoors with people I love.

  6. Make sun tea. Right now, I'm enjoying iced @snarkytea "Hibiscus Glow"

  7. Go barefoot! Yep, kick off your shoes and get your toes in the grass, in the dirt, or in the sand and pause for a moment to ground and soak it all in. Breathe.

  8. Float a river with friends. Or swim in a lake or the ocean.  You'll be glad you did.

We know getting outside and being active helps reduce stress, but it can definitely make us feel more connected to the world around us. Nature is amazingly healing and calming - perfect for recharging our senses and clearing our minds. I wanted to encourage you to get outside and experience some of it this summer! Take some time to go for a hike, a bike ride, or just a stroll in the park - you'll be glad you did.
