So You’ve Never Been to Italy

Italy has this magic that keeps pulling me back – more than any other place. It's like my heart found its favorite spot to dance in the world. I've traveled here more than any other country. I call it my personal Eat, Pray, Love destination. Seriously, it's the nurturing ground for my soul. From our Detour in the Dolomites last year to wandering the streets of Rome all by myself, each trip adds another layer and I’ve come to realize that if you've ever dreamt of traveling to Europe…

Italy is an absolute gem for your first adventure.

It’s the perfect initiation for those dreaming of a solo escape. The country has an incredible way of embracing female travelers. The warmth that radiates from the Italians? Seriously, it's on another level. It is, in my opinion, one of the most welcoming countries to navigate on your own – like stepping into a big, comforting hug.

They've got friendliness down to an art form. Their openness is like an invitation, making you feel at ease and at home so you can soak in every bit of Italy's beauty – the landscapes that take your breath away, the culture that's steeped in history, and the charm etched in every corner.

I'll never forget our family trip to Italy, celebrating my former husband's 50th birthday. Between the breathtaking landscapes and delicious food, life threw us a curveball…my then husband ended up rupturing his lung during a yoga session, and just when we thought it couldn't get worse, we all fell sick right before our flight back to California. But, let me tell you, even in that stressful situation, the Italians stepped up with such kindness.

My kids, then 13 and 11, were my little heroes. Sick in bed, I handed them a note with medicine details and sent them off to the front desk. The staff not only took them to a local pharmacy to secure the goods but also ensured we got on our flight smoothly. The flight attendants, all Italian, went above and beyond to take care of us.

It's experiences like these that remind me of Italy’s unmatched hospitality. If you have ever considered taking a Detour, this is truly the perfect place for it. There's an inexplicable magic in the air, and yes, it's in the wine. The beauty of Italy lies in its simplicity, making traveling here so easy. Whether it's the winding streets of a charming village or the rolling hills of a vineyard, there's a seamless ease in embracing the unexpected.

I am beyond excited for our upcoming Detour in Tuscany - gearing up for a deep dive into La Dolce Vita, ready to relish every piece of Italian culture that holds a special place in my heart.

Detouring takes you out of your day-to-day routine, opening up a realm of possibilities. And, allowing someone else to take the reins of planning gives you the precious headspace to focus on you. It's a breath of fresh air, a chance to realign your thoughts without the weight of logistics on your shoulders.

Here are some of the special moments that have my excitement through the roof for this October's retreat...✨
