The Beartooth Mountains

A Backpacking Adventure

Guided by the expertise of Beartooth Mountain Guides, a resilient group of gals, along with my dedicated crew, embarked on an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Beartooth Mountains in July 2023, completing the West Fork Loop. Twenty-two miles round trip, 3,571 feet ascended, 4,279 feet descended — an adventure within the Detour.

Explosions of wildflowers, high alpine lakes (or tarns, for the initiated), barefoot creek crossings, skinny dipping, and spirited campfires defined the experience. With limited backpacking experience across the group, the Darlings quickly bonded, forming a supportive circle that carried us forward mile by mile.

Through sweat, tears, and smiles, this journey became a powerful example of what’s possible when challenge, care, and connection are thoughtfully held together.
